The challenge
Perfume is the hardest thing to sell on a screen: you can't smell it. The existing store treated fragrances like any other product - a white-background photo, a name, a price - so 80 scents looked interchangeable.
Balad blends fragrances in Kozhikode and has its own house oud line. We redesigned its online store as a working concept, to show how much more of the brand a perfume shop can carry online.

Perfume is the hardest thing to sell on a screen: you can't smell it. The existing store treated fragrances like any other product - a white-background photo, a name, a price - so 80 scents looked interchangeable.
We gave every fragrance a profile - notes, accords and a scent family - so a shopper can browse by how something smells rather than by name. The store went dark and warm, an oud-night palette that suits the house blends. The house line keeps its studio photography, and the rest of the catalogue gets clean cut-out bottles. The full journey works in the concept, from browsing and product pages to cart, checkout and wishlist, with Malayalam type support built in.
A storefront concept that sells the experience of a fragrance, not just the bottle - designed to plug into the store's existing backend.
